Certification requirements differ significantly by market. Getting this wrong can mean a machine that cannot legally work, cannot be registered, or cannot be used on certain projects. Here is what to know before you order.
CE marking confirms a machine complies with the health, safety and environmental requirements applicable in the European Economic Area. The declaration of conformity is the document that proves it.
Why CE matters even outside Europe:
Machines can be supplied with CE certification and ROPS/FOPS compliant operator protection. Confirm the requirement at quotation stage.
Emission standards regulate how much harmful exhaust a machine's engine may produce. Critically, the standard applies to the engine, not the age of the machine.
| Standard | Region | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Stage V (EU 2016/1628) | European Union | In force since 2019 for non-road mobile machinery; full conformity required from 2026 |
| EPA Tier 4 Final / Tier 5 | United States | Tier 4 Final in force; next tier effective from January 2026 |
| GB 20891 Stage IV | China | Rolling out for off-road mobile machinery |
| No equivalent mandate | Most of Africa, Middle East, parts of Latin America and Asia | Older emission tiers remain usable |
Emission class determines where a machine can legally work, not merely how clean it runs:
An important consequence: tightening regulations push older machines out of regulated markets and into markets where requirements are less strict. This creates supply opportunities — and it means the compliance requirements for your specific market should be checked before purchase, not after.
Tell us these requirements at the quotation stage. We will confirm what is achievable and be straightforward if a specific combination is not available.
Tell us your working conditions, payload requirements and destination port. Our export team will recommend the right configuration and send a full quotation within 24 hours.
